Summary
AED in partnership with Pacific Consultants International (Tokyo) developed and implemented a teacher professional development program in Afghanistan to train head teachers and their assistants in basic school management to create opportunities for their teachers' professional development. More than 70 head teachers and their assistants from 45 schools in Kabul city developed basic plans on how to improve the learning environment for students. In addition to head teacher training, 36 teachers from various schools received peace and civic education training. The 36 teachers then went back to their clusters and provided the same training to other teachers. The goal was to initiate the cluster-based teacher mentoring programs where teachers could gain training and lessons on a regular basis from qualified teachers within their own clusters.
