“Educating a girl is like bringing light to a dark room.” - A father in Mali

Girls’ education and women’s leadership are two of the vital conditions for progress in societies. Research demonstrates that girls’ education has a dramatic impact on economic and social development, and that women’s leadership positively impacts the socio-economic life of their communities.

The AED Center for Gender Equity (CGE) promotes the rights of girls and women to education, health, a safe environment, economic participation, and leadership. It analyzes gender-related issues and advocates for the mobilization of leaders and institutions in support of gender and equity.

Our Vision

CGE envisions a world in which people’s life chances are based on ample opportunity and personal achievement, rather than gender or other social, economic, or environmental circumstances.

Our Mission

To promote, from a gender and equity perspective, the rights of all, especially girls and women, to access high quality education; to live in a healthy and safe environment; to engage fully in social, economic, and civic activities; and to pursue leadership positions in society.
